Destinations - Taranaki Region
Taranaki is an intensive dairy region producing some of NZ's finest cheese & is recognised as the energy province for its gas & oil fields.
New Plymouth is the only city in the region & is famous for its private & public gardens, some open year round. Pukeiti, set in 360ha of native bush, is renowned for its rhodendrons.
Ski Mt Taranaki in winter; explore the slopes over 300km of walking tracks.
Fair chase hunting can be arranged in Taranaki where thick bush remains on the rugged hills.
Tackle the Whitecliffs Walkway. You can see Taranaki's white cliffs, �3 Sisters' rock formations & walk through hand-carved Te Horo tunnel.
Climb to top of Paritutu Rock on the New Plymouth coast - the view is worth the exertion.
The rugged coast provides surfing, windsurfing, surfcasting, camping, diving and swimming (in patrolled areas).Sugarloaf Marine Park is the place to see seals & other marine life. Cruises leave most days.
