Wanganui City is major trade & distribution centre for region. Outside Wanganui the major rural activity is sheep farming, dairy & poultry farming.

Take tunnel & elevator to top of Wanganui's Durie Hill - the view is huge.

Climb War Memorial Tower (176 steps) for panoramic view of Mt Taranaki, Mt Ruapehu & South Island.

Whanganui National Park is an area of unique & extensive natural landscapes. Recreational use is centred on the river as there are few roads in park.

Whanganui River is NZ's longest navigable river & 2nd longest in North Island . Combining history with modern recreational adventure, the river holds a special attraction for canoeists with many listed rapids offering a wide variety of challenges.

Classed as a beginner's river suitable for novices, most canoeists start out at Taumarunui, making their way south to Pipiriki, 79km from Wanganui.

Experience the beauty of river by jet boat, paddle steamer or kayak. Find famous �Bridge to Nowhere�.

For those who prefer to drive visit remote Pipiriki village - there are several short walks of scenic & historic interest.
